New HT Oven Being Delivered Today!

It has arrived! And it is a Beast! I didn't picture it being this big in my head... Good news is it looks great no visible shipping issues. Bad news, I'm leaving town for work in the morning and won't be back until late Friday. I really want to get it set up and check it out, but I have to...

New HT Oven Being Delivered Today!

I've been waiting for months on a new HT oven. I had initially ordered an Evenheat in early August, but they kept pushing my delivery date. Last update was early next year. So, I cancelled the order with them and purchased a Paragon. Their delivery time was advertised as 6 weeks and they are two...

Can i get a proper heat treat without kiln

Many will say you can't, but I disagree. If you use 1084 and get your forge temp regulated I think you can. I did a lot of testing and finally got my set up to produce consistent results. I do have a heat treat oven on order though. I want to branch out to stainless and I don't see that working...

    New 2x72 grinder

I went from a 1x42 to a 2x72. It's like night and day...however my 1x42 is still good for fine work in tight places.

    1075 quench

Thanks for the info on the 80crv2. There are quite a few sources on the web likening it to 1084 and such. Glad to have friendly and knowledgeable people here to help explain these things better!

    1075 quench

Not questioning you at all, but isn't 80crv2 in the 10XX class? Just curious...

    1075 quench

Sounds like the AAA would be a good start. People say the 1095 needs the Parks 50, but I've had successful quenches of 1095 in Canola oil. Sometimes you just have to work with what you have and experiment for yourself.

    1075 quench

What is the main steel you want to work with? That will have a big effect on which oil to buy if you don't want to buy more than one type.

    1075 quench

Very expensive indeed! I've spent nearly $10K in the last year. I did however buy all the best equipment...

    1075 quench

My last order of Parks 50 from Dubois Chemical took just under two weeks to be delivered. No tracking or anything, didn't even show as shipped on the web site, just showed up...can't beat their price!
