    I hate making sheaths!

Paul Long sheath! You picked one of the most desirable sheath makers in the world to put your stuff in. There lol! If your doing kitchen stuff 99% of people your making knives for would have no clue what a true gem you just handed them. That said if you keep it somewhat simple on the maker, and...

Can sheath leather damage a blade?

90% of what I make are Sheaths for kitchen knives. I’m also known to not dry a blade off perfectly all the time. Got to seal the inside before you stitch it up. Simple Elmers glue and water would work fine and it’s food safe. I line most of my work in deer skin “ Paul Long style” I’ve never...

    Burnishing 3-4 layer edges

I know it’s a old post but I figured WTH I’m here checking things out anyway lol I do a lot of thick 4+ layer projects. Saddle soap and a stick or antler of some sort is the tri and true method ( and totally works). Many ( including myself) sand, then there’s burnishing/ polishing. What do all...

How to Run step pulleys in reverse?

Hi all: Before I possibly waste my time or worse, I’m wanting to run a step pulley driven KMG in Reverse for knife sharpening. I personally find it easier to get right angle and see bur grinding that way. Anyone know if the following would work and or if there is a better way? From an internet...

Japanese style handles can also work well

    Meat cleaver scales

'And as another option, I love the very old style ones, and prefer them over newer cleavers. I look at the meat cleaver as kind of a lost art. Once the bandsaw replaced the cleaver in the butchering industry things just have not been the same.

    Meat cleaver scales

A lot also depends on the look you're going for, when going custom looks can make a big difference. No point in going through all the trouble to make a knife to put a plain Jane handle on it (IMO) that sad: I agree with HHH wood picks, G10 and Macarta do hold up well in a kitchen but many...

    Making a corkscrew. Question

Never made one but I know a few guys that have. The interesting thing ( at least I thought so) was they did stock removal from a rod rather then twist it to form. Don't know if that helps any lol
