All, I've just started blacksmithing and have a lot of ?, but my first is about etching a differential HT blade. First what grit do you sand to before etching?, second I what to put a brass guard on it so obviously I have to etch it first but if I solder the guard in place I'll need to clean...

What angle are you grinding the blade lock at? Also are you grinding the lockbar itself at an angle? Make sure that the lock bar engages the knife on the front part only. g-
