    Forging press or Tire hammer??

Should i build a tire hammer or a forging press? Space isn't an issue but money sure is. I have good welding skills and access to plenty of steel. I'm more concerned about the cost to build, cost to operate and maintain, and versatility etc.

    Oh happy day!

I did clean it with my belt grinder, I was trying to get it completely flat, but i don't know if it needs to be. There were some large "pits" in it. I'm guessing from scale being beat into it. I got my fluxing and wire brushing all out of order. This is challenging but some of the most fun...

    Oh happy day!

I just did my first forge weld!!! I used 15n20 and 1084 from Aldo, 8 layers. One problem though when i cut it partially in half and went to fold it back on it's self for the next weld the middle layer came apart. But other than that i couldn't be happier.

    uh-oh.

Well, knocking it out with a punch wasn't an option for me because i was tapping into the wall of 1/4" wall tubing to put a cover plate on, so i was going into the wall long ways so the other side of the hole isn't accessible. what i ended up doing was sawing about 3/8'' off of it. I'm kinda...

    uh-oh.

So im tapping some holes on a new forge i'm building with and 6-32 tap and wouldn't ya know it. TINK! the tap snapped off pretty much flush with the hole. "no big deal" I thought to myself. I have another tap so I just moved the hole over a bit, and guess what? TINk!! So I went out and bought...

    Titanium question

Could someone tell me why Titanium doesn't make a good blade/tool? Is it the lack of hardenability?

    welding/grain growth

Ok, so after my first (horribly failed) attempt at making some 1095/15n20 damascus, I remembered that getting the steel too hot causes grain growth. So my question is How do you reduce the grain size after forge welding? Just normalize it?

    forging hammer

What size/style forging hammer would be best for a beginner? I use a 2.5lb cross pein, but i don't feel like i can control it well enough, and If I use my 12oz. sheet metal hammer It takes alot longer and makes alot of annoying dents in my blades. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks -Adam

How do I flatten armadillo ?

Well, I have to admit i've never even seen an armadillo in real life, but I recently straightened out some deer antler by soaking it in water for a day or so and then tightening it down in a bench vise between two boards, I left it there for a couple days until it dried out and it worked pretty...
