drilling handle material for tapered tang

I drill holes through the tang one size too big. Then I switch to a drill that's the right size for my pin stock, clamp a scale on and drill holes through the tang holes and through the scale. Then I clamp on the other scale too and drill through the drilled scales and through the other scale...

    WANTED 10" slotted grinding wheel

By slotted do you mean serrated? Sunray sells pretty much everything you could ever need in the way of urethane wheels, with a variety of different surface patterns. (Call them, it works better.) http://www.sunray-inc.com/

Couldn't you just orient your tool diagonally on your square hardy stock?

Custom file knives that I made what do you think

Serge Panchenko makes awesome knives from files: http://sergeknives.com/ Very creative stuff. He doesn't just do a "standard" knife with a file. He really matches the aesthetic in his work.

Vintage Knife, Anyone have any knowledge on this

Google is your friend. If it's a Robeson here's some info on that cutlery company: http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/robeson/index.php Cursory searching shows it's worth about $10-$50.

    Forge hoods

I just looked up the symptoms of CO2 poisoning at different levels. Based on the headaches I get while forging I think I'm definitely hitting the 100 ppm - 200 ppm level. Going to get a CO monitor before I fire up the forge again. Definitely making a hood and exhaust fan a priority now.

    Forge hoods

I'm very interested to see what others post. I don't have a hood. I just open a window and turn on a fan... I know. Bad.

Where to BUY fast Quench like Parks 50?

I would love some real quench oil, too. It's getting old juggling keeping my quench oil at the right heat and heating up my blade with my ghetto setup.

    Welding Machine

Thanks for the refresher Ed. I remember the process more or less from Jim's hammer-in. I've got copious notes thanks to Neil Ashworth and lots of photos of the process thanks to my wife. I was looking at the 125A and 140A 110v MIG/flux-core Lincoln. For $150 more than the 140A, I suppose I...

    Welding Machine

Sorry, I didn't ask that question very well. The question I should have asked is if the $400 Lincoln Electric 125 AMP stick/mig welder they have at places like Lowes would serve to tack the billets together. You answered that despite my unclear question. Thanks!

    Welding Machine

What are the requirements for a machine to prep damascus billets for forge welding? I'm planning to get a couple of 220v outlets wired in my shop, but I would prefer to have something that will run on 110v. By the way, I have zero welding experience, so this is going to be a bit of an...
