"My very first knife" - post up!

Here's the first knife I made circa 2016.

After Sean posted I was able to see it. Must've been on my end.

What's going on in your shop?

What's the saying? Knife makers don't make mistakes, they just make smaller knives?

Nice profile. I also did that to one. Recovered the blade by making it a full 1/4"+ narrower to re-center the the line. The profile I was working with could accommodate it.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is surviving Black Friday. I'm just catching up on some knives. Doing etching and handle finish today. Probably start the sheaths tomorrow.

    My latest

Nice looking knife Daniel, and that handle is beautiful! Love the grain, especially on the right side.

    Sharpeners

How long did it take before you needed to replace it?

    Sharpeners

Try the diamond hones for the Lansky. Using the extra coarse diamond hone cut my time down considerably. Now I start on the belt and finish with the Lansky. I may try that Work Sharp Guided system though. The Lansky works well for smaller blades, but struggles with larger ones. Can never have...

I had one that looked good, but am unsure if it hardened consistently throughout, as I’m using a propane forge. I think the next one I try I’ll plan to grind after HT so I can test hardness on flat surface along the blade. Hoping to purchase an oven next year, so may have better results then.

I'm assuming that's why 1084 doesn't show much activity then. It's what I've had on hand to experiment with, though I recently picked up some W2 to try out. That brings up another question: would soft spots show up when etching and polishing the steel, as in if the HT process didn't get...

They’re peened. I started out leaving them slightly proud of the handle to try to dome them, but it didn’t quite work out that way.

    Hidden Tang WIP

This project is finished. I learned a lot doing it, not just construction, but also etiquette (thank you @J. Doyle). I ended up using Gene's idea of plugging the tang hole with brass rod and drilling through it for a smaller pin- it worked great. I have a lot more respect for those who make...

I like the razor blade trick. I'll have to try that one.

I'm going to try this technique. I've got some 3/32" rod stock I can use. I'm thinking glue up will happen next, then I'll drill for the pin and start handle shaping. Thanks everyone for the input and encouragement.
