The "purists" on some of the YouTube comments on my video are appalled by my milling. Not precise enough. Not Pretty enough. Not expensive enough mill...
They'd really flip out on you using a drill press!! LOL
*Note: I'm the first to admit I was learning as I went and didn't know what I was...
True life! On a big machine shop mill this would be a cake walk. The only other milling I had to do was to relive the tooling arm to accept the sliding table. In my case this was necessary to line up the center of my chuck with my wheel.
Yes Sirs, I did surface the chuck. I did it with a 2'' belt tracking back and forth. I plan on getting a 3'' belt soon to touch it up again... just to make sure.
I set my magnets fairly deep @ 0.125''.
I'm glad to hear my results are in the range! I mainly work on fixed blades so this will...
So far these are my results. I surface ground 3 knives post HT... Granted I was learning the machine here so I ended up taking of more than I should have on them. (especially the top one)
To mitigate any warping issues and to see how true my SGA was I took a piece of .25'' plate and surface...
Hey man, I thought about it, but wanted to keep the build design as simple as possible. Do you mean it's better as far as the results achieved or just easier to use? Just wondering if there is any advantage of having gravity work down on the slide table seating it into the bearings better?
I...
Hey man, you are the legend. Thanks for starting that thread! Great design there. I'm extremely happy I came across it! This is way cheaper than buying one off the shelf and it's a fun project to boot!
I can't wait to put some hours behind it now.
I figured some of yall here could get something out of this build. This video goes though my "Travis Wuertz SGA Clone" build step by step. There is a parts list included product links in the description of the video. I also have a PDF drawing in there that could help with a build.
Thanks to...
So I finished up this "EDC Seax" this weekend. I really like how it came out. It's sporting a 1084 blade quenched @ 1500 F and tempered for two - two hour rounds @ 410 F. The handle scales are ironwood and they're affixed with stainless steel corby fasteners (and G-Flex epoxy). I also added a...
I get mine from TUS Industries. 36$ for a custom sheet of 5 stencils and it's cheaper to re order. They've been great to work with and their stencils last between 10-20 knives.
Finished up this etching machine build... Here is an artistic picture and the wiring diagram:
Edit: If anyone wants to build this thing, I have a full build video @Jkeetonknives on YouTube... It's a tedious build for sure, but works pretty darn good.
