    Need hollow grind info

I use a 16” wheel a lot for my hollow grinds but, as Ed says, that is the max size for my grinder. I just wanted to add that I spend most of my time on instagram and ran across Bill Behnke who makes radius platens. For my larger hollow grinds I now use one of his 36” platens. It works well for...

Thank you. I agree on re sheathing. He’s does martial arts so I hope that means he knows what he’s doing.

IWB (in the waist band) sheath

I haven’t posted knives in a while but wanted to share this twin sheath for twin knives. The customer wanted matching left right belt carry and also an IWB carry for the small of his back. This sheath is all the work of my brother with some input from the customer. Took him quite a while to work...

    Chef knife quandary

Sound advice as usual. Thank you. I just learned from the engraver he likes a hamon as well. While I thought it would detract from his engraving it looks like it will be good in his eyes so I’m going with 1095. Thanks again.

    Chef knife quandary

Thanks ahead of time for any advice. An engraver who made some rings for some clients now have the same clients asking for an engraved chef knife. He asked me to make the knife. He wants the spine area clayed so when I send the finished knife that part is not hardened. So a hamon is not the...

    Sheath Makin Hatin Club

Very nice sheath Justin. I for one do not like to make sheaths but would if I had to. My brother makes mine and I don’t think I can do better than him. If he calls it quits I’ll step up. I love the smell of leather. I love the small of coffee. At first I much preferred the smell of coffee over...

    Re heat treat 1095

I appreciate your opinion and input.. Thanks and thanks to everyone else. I’m going to just re-heat treat with new oil (no anneal) and see what happens.

    Re heat treat 1095

Changing the oil out is definitely one thing I’ll do. It’s also in a small container (about a gallon) so it’s probably easier to contaminate. Thanks

    Re heat treat 1095

I have some more reading and learning to do! I thought, perhaps wrongly, cycling benefited forged blades. I guess it can also be useful for stock removal. I’ll do some more reading. Thanks again.
