    Jigs: Curse or Cure?

    I think using a jig should be fine.I learned to free hand grind so it's more versatile for me.When using a jig it is controlled by hand so there is a great degree of skill needed.I would destroy a blade trying to use a jig.Jig or no jig if you are having fun making knives then to Me it's OK.     Dan, I don't use the Rotary Broach Holder. I use just the bit and chuck it in a 1/2" collet in the mill.No power needed just the down motion of the quill. Rick

    Guy's, I came up with a way to square a guard slot with out using a file. It's easy and the corners are nice and sharp.I use a square rotary broach bit.I mill the slot with a 1/8" endmill. Then chuck the rotary bit in the mill,no power needed.Move the bit to the end of the slot and raise the...

    Arbor press and bolster pins

    Do a google search , Fighter step by step.Charles Vestal shows how he pins his guard.Taper the holes dome or taper the pins a little.I use a hammer then the pin press. Works great Rick

    nail nicks with a fly cutter

    Gene, I have seen the nicks made with a drill press using a stone chucked and blade in a drill press vise.The stone is shaped with a angle and you hand feed the blade into the stone.It can be done with out a mill. Good luck Rick
