Foot-Long (Recurve Pending) Persian Fighter ....

Kevin Zito

KNIFE MAKER
The fit is all good on the guard and handle... but... I haven’t really finished profiling the blade yet lol. I just wanted to see how long it would take me. The process of making the guards is time consuming, and when possible, I highly suggest buying one premade. However, this is the third one that I have done, and it’s getting much easier, faster, and the fit is where it needs to be. I have to be honest, here. This was not easy for me. However, handle shaping is way cooler, because I feel like I have more freedom. For some reason, I feel like I have tons of options for embellishments also (collars, spacers, and so on. John Doyle said that when a man holds a big Bowie in his hand, especially one he made himself, he will never be the same. Even though this is not done and the harpoon tip messes up the Bowie aspect, I definitely understand what he meant. I thought about waiting to post this until I was closer to finishing, but I’m excited. When I started this journey a year and a half ago (or so), I had no idea how much my life would change. “Be happy, make knives!” Cpm154cm with desert ironwood and nickel silver hand made guard. Thanks for looking... critique please. Total time so far is 7 hrs from raw materials.C4ADEFC0-E3F9-4319-89C5-FDCBE0FA552F.jpeg3F20A903-15AB-4FEC-84D6-7F432BDA5FB9.jpeg

Kevin, I love it!!

If you don't mind me asking how did you fit the guard to the blade without having an open top??

Is the same knife you were asking about the guard??

This one????? Cause I really want to know how you closed the top of that saddle guard!!!!

Hey Cliff! Thanks! I’m glad you like it! No this is a different, much larger knife. It’s actually almost 13 ins. Here are the two together.image.jpg

I am a firm believer that you have to try new and more difficult tasks in order to get better as a maker. Keep pushing the envelope. If you fail, get up and start again. It is a very long process. Keep grinding.
Thanks, Demo! I think that I just love to learn the new techniques to achieve a certain look.

Oh and by the way, Cliff, I decided to go with a hidden tang so I just filed a hole in a piece of nickel silver and slid it on.

Thanks Kevin, you had me going there for a minute. I was thinking I am gonna have to call this boy "the Wizard" cause I don't know of how to fit a guard on one like that without doing a saddle guard. But hey, I am a firm believer in that, I don't know everything!!! :p

Lol!!! That would be tricky.

Using this method you can get a guard without the saddle style slot

Yep, that is another way Von. Is that one of yours Von??

The other knife he was building like this, he had already profiled and I had told him that there was no way without doing a( hidden tang or a variation of), was he gonna be able to get a guard on it without doing a saddle type guard. The one you have pictured, a frame handle is on my bucket list!! One of these days I am going to try it!!

Here is a link to a WIP on a frame style knife that one of our members had done on another forum!!

No not one of mine. I am inclined to grab pics of interesting designs techniques or styles and this was one of them.
