Damascus Hunting Knife

Here is the latest from my shop. The OAL of the knife is about 8" with a 3 1/2" cutting edge. The damascus is from Alabama Damascus and the desert iron wood handles I picked up at Blade, but I can't remember from whom. Thanks for looking! Comments and critiques welcomed.

Love the look!

I do have a concern though! Every time I see a handle like this I can't help but worry about the little tit of wood that sticks down in the ricasso area! I always worry that it would be easy to snap it off with an impact. Have you ever had that to happen??

Knock on wood, no :) But I can see how that could be a concern.

That's a nice knife Frank but as soon as I saw it that part of the handle Cliff mentioned stuck out.
that might have been better to round off, it does look like it could get damaged relatively easily.

Cazador, don't get me wrong I love the look but I have been doing carpentry/woodworking all my life and I learned that something like that is asking for trouble.

I have seen other knife makers doing the same thing but, I always cringe a little thinking. One good bump or drop and...………….

As a lifelong woodworker as well, I have to aggree with C Craft as the grain looks to be going at an angle against the run of the finger grip - ricasso , but it certainly is a beautiful knife. Desert Ironwood is about as nice as it gets for handle wood.

Thanks all! I think maybe rounding off the handle near the ricasso will be the way to go going forward. Really appreciate the feedback!
