Kevin Zito - KITH 2019 Bowie WIP

I must have missed that somewhere. What about spalted wood that’s been stabilized? Kevin’s piece looks solid without any major voids. Or does that make any difference? I haven’t made a hidden tang yet but I’ve used spalted scales that have been stabilized and along with G10 I don’t think using it like that will cause a problem. Solid handle may be different.
under the "does claro walnut need to be stabilized # topic

A nice paracord would maybe work? Buuuuut I have been itchin to do a sharkskin wrap. I guess you just keep wrapping the tang with the skin like a roll of paper towels? If it’s easy peasy let me know quick because it’ll probably take me a couple weeks to kill a shark big enough... or can you splice little ones together? I’m such a noob with the shark stuff so please help me out guys.

Scales would be worse than a solid block.....in theory.

I figured I’d post a sneak-peak progress pic or two. Any and all critique welcome. Oh and .... the handle is gonna be Blackwood. I split the spalted maple in a vice like a stupid gorilla. To be honest, though, I really prefer the Blackwood. I’m aiming for sleek, classy, and sexy with just a splash of Sturgis. 5818835A-034E-4110-8854-67E993182DE0.jpeg848714C8-0507-41B6-8E5B-BD32DD60576F.jpeg

Very nice Kevin! I see you evened up your Ricasso.

If you want a splash of Sturgis you're going to need a motorcycle chain in their somewhere, or old dirty oil :D

I'm guessin that John Doyle was right about that spalted wood ! I've learned a valuable lesson....

Oh man I really need to get cranking away at my Bowie! This looks great Kevin I think you got the short end of the stick for KITH :p

Kevin - I've not commented much on this thread but have been following it. You are doing a GREAT job. The blackwood just "looks" better on that "bad" Bowie.
