What's going on in your shop?

John, how are you doing the milling for the inlay?
The fit looks good.

Thanks Tracy. I make my inlays then scribe them on the scales. I use the mill to remove material from the pocket to just inside my scribe lines. Then its hand scraped and fit from there. These do fit really well. The wood still needs to come down flush with the inlays.

Man....CNC would be nice!:D

Working on sheath making since it’s too cold in the shop for actual knife work. My first two looked like a cub scout project gone awry... this one’s a little better. Came out bigger than I wanted... so will have to build a knife to fit it I guess.

I made a thumb stud from Damascus for my latest project. This will match the pivot collars and will be salt blued. I gave it a light acid etch now to see the pattern.

I could not find my hand tapping fixture. It will probably show up tomorrow when I don’t need it. I had to hand tap this blind hole old school.

Once I got the threads started, I ground the tip off the tap to get a couple more threads deeper.

This shows the stud I took off for this one. I gave the new one a .124” diameter boss that sits proud .050”. I shortened the new one with a little less diameter. I turned in a little extra detail.

Fits perfect. Time for football now.

Got my grinder bench built and painted, added a full top of 3/16” ish steel for the topper. My friend gave me all his leftovers from building his pipeline welding truck build and I found a piece that fit the top, only had to cut 3 of the 4 sides with a 4 1/2” angle grinder, a plasma cutter or a torch would have been nice! Grinder should be here tomorrow or Tuesday so got it done just in time

some of you may need a map to understand this. This is my KMG-TX grinder and all the accessories, FedEx makes no sense to me, they routinely ship things to about 4 or 5 different places before it gets here, often times it goes right by me twice. The package was about an hour away last night now it is 4+hours away and probably won’t get here until tomorrow. I know it’s not that big of deal but damnit I’m not patient and I want to use my new toy...Err Umm Tool!

Tell me about it. My wife ordered a new Roku last week and it went from back East to Salt Lake City, then to Portland and back to Salt Lake City!
I suppose it has to do with some least route algorithm, but you would think that if it came to Salt Lake City where it's supposed to be delivered it would stay here.

I don’t know how you guys pattern your sheaths but I fold paper in half. I lay knife down and move 3/8 inch off fold and draw a line. Bottom of welt is square to keep point from pushing through. French curve top and bottom then straight line equal distance off knife line. Cut it out trace on leather then cut welt out to copy to leather. I use separate belt loop pattern .
