Laugh if you want to.

I may be on to something here. In another thread we were talking about protecting your blade while you finish handle work. I came up with the idea of using plasta dip rubber spray paint. Where I work there is always humidity and I get marks and rust no matter what I do. Here is a test blade Made from some Damascus that lives to rust if unprotected. I figure it will be 1 to 2 weeks before I finish it so I will post updates as I go. 8D32F624-3284-43FB-9A57-4224E1CB85CF.jpegA5021447-BE55-4D64-B90A-A9F7C1A7DFF4.jpeg

No laughing here! Anything that will "seal" a blade from oxygen will keep it from tarnishing/rusting. I've used a lot of Plasti-dip.... it's kinda icky to get off, but a good dose of acetone and some care will work. At least with it.....you can still sight down the blade/knife when working on/finishing it....and have far fewer chances of turning out a "boomerang" looking knife! :)

The spray paint version is fairly easy to peel off. Before I started buying dykem I sprayed bar stock with the plasti dip spray paint and then used a Scribe to outline my template. Then I peeled off everything that was not the knife and you had a perfect image of the knife you wanted to make. I Will post more when I peel it off.
