Anyone using this steel. I didnt find anything in the steel section of the forum. Friend of mine got some at Pops.

I have in the past. With other steels like 80CRV2 available..... I don't think it's worth the effort. It's more of a "toughness" steel, which holds up well to chopping/abuse, but doesn't hold an edge as well as I had hoped it would.

Just my opinion, but I'd pick 80CRV2 over it any day, and twice on Sundays ;)

It is a high toughness steel so I use it for harder use blades but use 52100 or AEB-L when I want a little bit more edge retention, relatively speaking. I think it's great for tough applications.

From Alpha Knife Supply
This steel is used extensively in the lumber industry for making large circular saw blades. The nickel add toughness and there is enough carbon for good edge holding. There is not enough nickel to make a good shiny layer in damascus.

Think of 8670 as an improved version of 5160, More (extreme) toughness and good edge holding.
