Time between quench and tempering.

I HT a batch of 52100 and 8670 today. while I was HT the first batch of 52100 my toaster oven died. Wife would not let me use her oven so I finished all the knives and waited till my HT oven dropped to 400 and used it to temper. So I guess the wait was a couple of hours before the tempering started. I know you should temper as soon as you can but would a wait of a couple of hours detrimental to the blade. It was nice using the oven to temper. Plenty of room and the oven held temperature way better then the toasters.

Never worked with those steels, and am a newbie myself, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I would say that you shouldn't have any problems waiting to temper with those steels. I've seen people say that D2 especially should be tempered as soon as possible to retain high hardness, but have never not taken them for their word to find out.

Following.
I personally don’t think a hour or so should make a concerning difference.
