What's going on in your shop?

Working on these 3! 240mm gyuto in Randy Haas HHH Random high carbon damascus, S ground blade, and 2 hunters in Alabama Damascus for a Dad and daughter who took their first deer together this year. Antler is from that deer!

A quick look at this hamon straight out of tempering on this 8" bowie.
Nice one John! Looks like that one will have lots of interesting activity. What steel do you find gives you the best results for your process? I'm playing with W-2 right now, but see others get good results with 1075, 1095 and W-1.

I've had my best results from 1075 and Don Hanson W2.

The few times I've used W1 were promising and I will probably eventually switch to that for all my steel when my current stock is gone.

I haven't had much luck with 1095 at all. Or W2 from Aldo.

Though looking at certs from admiral steel, their 1095 looks good on paper for hamon.
