New Curly Birch supplier from Estonia

I prefer birch lightweight and warm. I had some stabilized and when it's cold it'll suck the heat right out of your hand; it can take away desirable properties of birch in my opinion. I'll keep you in mind next time I'm looking to buy. Your prices are reasonable. Do you have any other seller...

    Paracord wrapped handles.

Probably a concept as old as Adam.

    Paracord wrapped handles.

Thank you! I found it: "Moku". Half moku and full. It makes a nice diamond and looks like a better/stronger method than what I did there.

Great material! Great looking pieces, too. Not stabilized, correct?

    Paracord wrapped handles.

Reminds me, my old boss did something similar to his hammer. He spun hockey tape around to make it thicker and wound that around the handle first, laying it down diagonally with wide spaces, like on the handrails (?). Then covered all of it the with the tape flat. I don't know who showed him...

What's going on in your shop?

Working on an anvil stand for a round anvil someone gave me. I think it's a pin from some heavy equipment. It itself is a beast! Whatever it is, it's one solid chunk of steel! It seems like it has to be tool steel, but it's dinged up on both sides, so not sure how it'll go when I start using...

    Thoughts on Gift Giving

You're right. That's a broad stroke. I wanted to model work ethic for these young guys getting stoned all the time and around bad influences. I guess people I thought I could help, not the insolent, defiant ones. I'm pretty selective, but I had a guy for awhile I new personally, that didn't...

    Thoughts on Gift Giving

I agree with all of the above. Anyone ever try troubled youth in your shops. I stopped doing that. But that was all who I had around for awhile. Just wondering if others have figured out ways around those issues and still having them around - despite the risks.

We might take in an elderly friend of ours. She's about 95 and in the hospital now. I would have met her when she was around 67- 68 so to me she was already like a grandmother when I first met her. It would be a privilege if we can do it.

I could tell by my late 30's that my body was not the same as it used to be. I got into this as both an alternative and addition to any work/jobs that require lots of walking or lifting, especially on uneven ground (firewood, fishing, etc). My goal is by the time I'm 50 to be making professional...

    three done

Thanks, yohan! Getting there! I really enjoyed seeing the radiance in the walnut pop out. On the rosewood, I was trying for contours to bring out the grain. I'll try something a little different next time, maybe a hidden tang to blend the grain together and make it move.

    1. The first is from a large saw blade I heat treated. I think the top shows auto hamon but I'm not sure. But those lines are in the steel, evenly on both sides. The actual hamon line is down there pretty low. Rosewood handle and riveted stainless pins. No sheath just a display. 2. The second...
