    Pearlescent pin

I didn't realize how thin it was. I guess I was thinking of the crushed up kind mixed with epoxy. Chris' picture made me think of "fast caps" in in cabinetry... or better, something similar to wood plugs for building furniture. I can picture a clean tight fit.

    Pearlescent pin

Could you make them...??? I made a couple serpentine pins with a 1/4 diamond core drill. Only one turned out that I ever used. My process would need to be dialed in if was still in my shop. With 1/4" core drill I got a 5/32 pin. I never had success going smaller. They want to crack along...

I've thought about tilting the platen at that angle, but never tried it.

Trouble Heat Treating Baker Forge Bronze SanMai

Do you have any plain 80crv2 to use for testing? You could transfer the process from that to the baker laminated piece with confidence.

    selling knives online question

I know what you mean. That's why I'm not underselling now. I'm reading a thread where a maker advised against dropping prices too soon. I had to laugh beacuse after a week I raised it $30.

    selling knives online question

Thanks, Chris. I'm reading in the business forum now and am getting some good info, too. So far for me it's been word of mouth. One funny thing recently was other people's social media accounts helped me get business. Someone posted to their account what they bought from me and their followers...

    selling knives online question

What's the best way to establish an online presence for selling knives? I know that's a broad question. Website, Etsy, Instagram, Craigslist,.... I'm thinking $200-400 and less than 10 a year - so maybe just word of mouth at this point? Thanks in advance.

    How Many Knives at Once...

I don't have a real system yet, but lately 2-4. Three was tough for me to finish in 3 mos last winter but I had a fourth in the batch. If I get a request and another comes in around the same time, I'll get all the details I can on the second one asap. That way I can include it with the forging...

Fattening up a para cord handle

I'm curious, too. So I'll be watching the thread. I tried to get some leather to show underneath my last cordwrap - but unsuccessful. It was a thin burgundy peice from a reclaimed messenger bag that was also still mallable. I think it would have looked really nice showing through. If you don't...

Sorry about your mom. Hope you can still get around a little to help out.

What's going on in your shop?

My second time doing any kind of wrap. I thought this knife would get too slippery in use -fish slime, blood, fat etc... - which can be frustrating in my opinion - so I added a little extra grip in the back. It's a thin 4" skinner in 80CRV2. Unstabilized solid weathered moose time with epoxy to...

How do you get consistent thickness behind the edge on the grinder?

You described that pretty well. I put the advice into practice today and it helped a lot. Thanks billyo.

    Stone WIP

Yep, that is a good video. I subscribed to his channel awhile back and was excited when this video came out. I've only come up with a few knife related threads online so this was pretty fun to watch. I think he did right to go to a show and buy what he wanted. That way he can say what it is...

    Stone WIP

My computer isn't showing if the last picture loaded. Ignore the title, I don't know if it's jasper I haven't decided on a knife type yet. Something with a hamon.

    Stone WIP

The final product for now. I'm hoping for a pair of scales, a "block" for a hidden tang, a dressing stone, and a display mount not showing - all matching. Just want to comment on this last piece. I'm not sure if this line is a weak point. But since I've been learning about stone, it seems one...

    Stone WIP

I hit them with another lapping stone just to get more of an idea how they'll polish out. When I actually make the knife, I'll cut away what I don't need so I won't have as much surface area to flatten. But for now, this gives me a look at the colors and any fractures I want to cut away.

    Stone WIP

Next thing I did was lap them. I used a couple aggressive diamond laps for sharpening stones. Slow progress on the first lap. Again, I'm using water. The grooves catch the water and help create a slurry that you can continue to use. I think I remember hearing that the slurry helps cut.
