    WIP/Tutorial Full Tang Hunter

Scratch the elk scales. I ground too far on them, so I asked my friend who I am making this for whether a piece of caribou I had would be ok. I think it might work better than the elk anyway. A lot of hand sanding went on before I took the last picture. The best trick to hand sanding is to...

    WIP/Tutorial Full Tang Hunter

Hey guys, this was a tutorial I posted up on my website a while back, thought I would post it here for any beginners as just a basic build along. April 6, 2020 This tutorial is a very basic one, but hopefully it will give you some insight into how I make knives. There is a ton of info on the...

How do I sand this scale flat?

Looks like you've got a couple good options from the guys above. Not to hijack the thread, but I've got some maple that I'd like to send out to be stabilized and I was thinking I would send it to k and g. Anything I should know about the process? Thanks.

    Frame Handle bowie

At 120 it looks like I got past it. Sharpened it and did some testing, seemed good, so I will continue on. Anyone have any tips on how to help with belt bump? Even grinding with klingspor yellow at 120 I'm getting "worm tracks". If I put graphite or glass on it instead of the standard steel...

Just a scratch. I was testing how deep it was with a file.

    Frame Handle bowie

Alrighty, profiled blade, rough ground, drilled tang holes, and into heat treat, wrapped in ss foil. Everything went as normal, until I pulled the blade out of the pouch. There was a dark area about a thumb width in the middle of the blade. Decarb and first time that's happened to me. I did...

Looking for thermally treated wood handle material

Interesting. If it is mostly used for lumber sounds like you'll have a hard time finding much burly stuff, but what do I know! You could contact some of the companies and see if they would treat some of your wood

Some pics. So far we are profiled and have pin holes in the tang. I may end up doing hidden pins, in which case I could use all of those holes.

Looking for thermally treated wood handle material

Are you talking about stabilized wood? Or something like dymondwood? You can find both at knife maker supply companies. Hope that helps!

For the fittings and the frame? Thanks

    Frame Handle bowie

Alrighty, question number two on this build! I have got the blade rough profiled by now (I know, slow) and am guessing I don't need to worry about working on the frame and fittings until the blade is pretty much done. However, I need to pick a frame material and order some, most likely. The...

    Sambar, bronze, and hamon

Awesome! I like how you didn't sand down the stag, it's unique. Mind sharing where you got your bronze?

    Frame Handle bowie

I guess the advantage to a frame handle is that you can do a double guard along with anything else you could do with a full tang. Mr. Lester: I can't imagine how you could get a double guard on a full tang knife. Do you have any pictures?

    Frame Handle bowie

So I think I'll do what Mr. Bump did here, maybe not as many pins as he did, and maybe not hidden, but it seems like it should work for me. I might also use line up pins instead of those little nubs, like Gilbert suggested...
