Recommend a heat treat for 4v

The delta ht should work for added toughness, just use the lowest austenitizing temp with a good oil quench, then liquid nitrogen, then a 300F temper some more Liquid nitrogen then some more 350f temper - I use this for a related but not the same steel... k490... and it comes out at rc63 and...

    A Craftsmens Legacy

If my kids want to watch something on the computer, they get to watch that the last while, which is only once or twice a week... they have now had 5 or 6 new careers in the last month or so, they are thinking maybe they will need hobbies too...

    Making a short sword/wakizashi build along.(Done!)

A cheap way to do it would be some angle iron fixed to the back of the cart that would bolt to the wall with some wingnuts or something... this is assuming you have brick walls vlose by, nit sure you want to bolt that to drywall

Anyone do the AEB-L Double Quench?

I am thinking i need to go there... have some 600x150x100mm big long heatsinks bough for a monster amp that may just fit the bill - they have mounting channels unfortunately so not sure about what to do about those channels - could lead to uneven cooling - even if i put some oil or air through it...

Anyone do the AEB-L Double Quench?

That is interesting... I am quenching in oil and often get significant warp after the hardening quench... and straightening it by hand seemed to give me cracks... i am thinking an interrupted (after 4 seconds) oil quench which then goes to plate quench would be useful... strong smoke not fire in...

Anyone do the AEB-L Double Quench?

Well what i THINK it does is gain you a bit less grain qrowth so you. An push it a teeny bit harder, but it can also just make you have smaller grain at your chosen hardness

Anyone do the AEB-L Double Quench?

That sounds good, at 1090 i seem to hit 63 more regularly... but my oven your oven 10 degc difference is completely expected

Sheath for my moms kitchen knife

From the cheap and nasty section i just make edge guards form electrical conduit... take the thin walled ones heat them in temper oven to almost 100 degc and they will be floppy, clamp between two planks... if i want a curve i just take two pliers and pull on the opposite ends of the pipe but...

    Eye's in blade?

I have had different shapes in aebl... and man!!!! It is a chore to go back to 180 and once you hit 600 grit they are back... water also shows it... the magnetic thing sounds like a good explanation... I am thinking the bar magnet probably made two poles and that coulda done it...

My latest sword- the sword of Elector Christian I of Saxony

is the “only” benefit the stability of the long thin straight thingy or is there another less obvious benefit to marquenching? And For blades do you also use air cooling out of the 420 f quench?

Anyone do the AEB-L Double Quench?

Also i aim for 63 (no prequench) or 64( with prequench) on short blades with 1090 degc aus temp and LN cryo. But your oven’s variation at those temps make it a bit iffy

Anyone do the AEB-L Double Quench?

I suspect plate quench might reduce the possibility of cracking and warping but then you need subzero... in my opinion... i will now oil quench and then go to plates... when i try it again... but honestly 62+ on a 350f temper performs very well

Anyone do the AEB-L Double Quench?

I have done it, you can get an extra hardness point with it a few blades i got to 64 with a 350f temper without i get to 63 on a 1090 degc aus temp and cryo...... BUT you are heading for warp or crack city... the ones that worked could keep a 7dps edge on my cutting board... the ones that didnt...

    Contact wheels.

If you want to improve your ability to learn how to grind get the vfd... if that is not the priority get a small wheel attachment... i am using electric conduit on my old motor and gluing sandpaper to it for my small wheel grinding for now

Can a production knife blade be copied?

I priced a crkt m16 replacement blade in m390 for a client and it basically for the smallest piece of steel i could buy that would fit the blade came to 100usd then reproducing the shape by hand would be time consuming heat treat grind and finished would have ended up to be around 300usd and my...

    Sword Steel ???/

Use 12c27 or 14c28 if you want stainless... just choose a heat treat that optimises very little to NO retained austenite... i.e. low aust temp around 1040 deg c with longish soak, and a quick quench, but for the long blade i would say plate quenching these steels are needed... for straightness-...
