    New Old Timer back

Don, The ones that are gone don't talk very loud anymore. I just turned 71. I feel like an old car that is always in the shop with something broken down. A couple of the friends I had in high school just departed. Got a feeling there will be more. Old age is fatal. Been meaning to ask, is the...

Don, Did you know old guys rust? I think that is what is wrong with all my joints. Thanks for the comment........

I received the photo of the fighter last night. Not sure who the photographer was that took the picture but I thought it was a good one. This is with the mustard patina finish.

    Swedish/Japanese Swordsmith

My daughter who lives in Tokyo just sent me this link to an article about this Swedish/Japanese swordsmith. Thought it would be of interest to some: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/community/2018/05/16/our-lives/sword-expression-absolute/#.Wv5VOMgh3cM

    Bambie's Father

Who's name happens to be Buck donated this antler tip so I could make a neck knife out of it. The blade was made from a piece old lumber mill circular saw steel that is approximately 3" long. I did a mustard patina on this blade. Hoping to get my sheath making app back and see if I can still do...

    Arachnophobia {Old School Fighter}

Ben, Really have been enjoying seeing your knife making progression over the last few years. Trying to figure out what makes this knife "old school".

    New Old Timer back

I'm back from doing the OKCA Show this past weekend. I had done a mustard patina on this fighting knife before I did the show. Entered it in the custom knife competition and it won best fighter of the show. Hope to get a better photo of it in a few weeks. Sold one knife Saturday after a very...

    Donation knives and culinary knives

I'm starting to think this forum needs a name change to, Stormcrow Theater. About time the grinding division got a mention......

    New Old Timer back

I am surprised to see the amount of interest in my knives. Here's a fighter I finished up a week or so ago. The blade is 3 layers of saw steel made a good 10 years ago. Not sure why I didn't finish it off then. The blade is 10". This one has a sambar stag handle and the fittings are mild steel...

    Rooster Spur bodyguard knife

James, To me the turkshead would look better if it were the same color as the rest of the handle. This is a small knife compared to what you normally do.

    New Old Timer back

Thanks for the welcome back. I've been using Fiebring's Pro Oil leather dye on my antler handles for several years. Now this is the oil dye. Walnut is my favorite. Here's a not so good photo of the other two knives and one of the ring nut system I started using years ago.

    New Old Timer back

I can't remember the last time I posted any knives here. Finally got my interest back to work on a few knives the first of the new year.. Must have gotten my desire back to. Very slow anymore but old tricks are starting to come back. Ended up making 5 knives. Need to photograph the other two...

    Hand Sanding

Hand rubbing blades is always something I have done but was forced to take a couple years off from making knives due to oldness. Finally got the desire back to be making again. I've always felt the first hand rub was the most difficult. I normally would start out with either 220 or 320 wet and...

Taking shine off Tru oil finish?

Painters have been adding talcum powder to paint for years to remove the gloss. As for the amount needed to do a knife handle I'd try a few small test pieces first.

What’s a good lube for sanding wood??

Elbow grease works the best....... Don't use water on the wood.

    Making electrolyte

When I use to chew I'd use the lid to my can. I'd just spit in it and add a pinch of salt and stir it up with my finger. Making etching solution doesn't need to be a science project.......

    Simple fixed blade.

Cal, I see you still make some beautiful folders! I made two lock back folders 20 years ago. The first one was a two step model and the second one was the three step model. The first one was so heavy you got two steps and the weight of it made pants fall down. The second one was a little lighter.
