    A little help here please!

Bite the bullet and send in as much as you can to K&G. If not check with Faron Moore, I got some curly pecan from him that was outstanding!

    Kydex Curling!

You are definitely getting the kydex/Boltaron too hot to fast. I use a five dollar toaster oven from Good Will to heat my kydex so it's not like you need an expensive set up or run the risk of ruining a hot plate, or griddle to get good results. Like Calvin said, my little oven has a glass door...

    Lining Kydex Sheaths

Thanks for the words of wisdom Boss, you're right I have tried to up my game. I've been playing with my finishes lately so this isn't a dead subject for me. So far, I keep everything as clean as possible. I use kydex rivets with masking tape over them to hold everything so it's lined up...

    Knife "Templates"

I guess I'm too cheap to waste steel on a template, if I'm buying steel, it's getting turned into a knife. What I do is take my paper drawing and cut it out very carefully with the sharpest scissors I can find. I then use spray adhesive and attach my paper drawing to a piece of kydex. After the...

    Lining Kydex Sheaths

Ok gents here's the scenario. I'm a new knife maker. I've got a good friend that is letting me put my knives in his gun store. I stopped in the other day and my friend told me that their was another local maker in the shop ragging on one of my knives because the blade is showing signs of wear...

    Your main job and/or interest

I was a Deputy Sheriff for 20+ years. Got hurt in '08 which aggravated a bunch of old injuries and had to take a medical disability retirement. Chronic pain sufferer (knife making keeps my mind off that). I've hunted, fished, camped my entire life. I've got a pretty good gun collection and enjoy...

Need advice on how to handle a customer.

UPDATE:::::: I sent the following e-mail to the customer tonight. Since I haven’t heard from you about your knife, I was wondering how you wanted to proceed. At this point, I think the next logical step is for you to give me a scale sketch of what you want and I will do my best to work from...

Need advice on how to handle a customer.

Wow gents, some very sage advice here and more than I could have ever asked for. I'm gonna stew on this until Tuesday because the ball is in his court at the moment. Whatever the outcome, I'll keep you all posted. And, a big thank you to all who took time to answer. John

Manual Machinist Course- is this the right direction ?

Without a doubt, grinding and mill. Have you tried to find any custom makers in your area? If you can find some, see if you can come and spend a day in their shop observing and picking their brains. It's been my experience that other custom makers are quite free with their knowlege and will do...

Need advice on how to handle a customer.

Frank, It's going to make an ugly knife (I can live with that) verging on bad. Using .156 inch thick stock, the blade width on my latest sketch was 1.75 inches at the point where the center of the hole is. I have .25 inch at the spine and .75 inch toward the edge. I'm looking at having a grind...

Need advice on how to handle a customer.

Ok guys, here's the situation. A friend of my wife's family wanted to buy her adult son one of my knives as a gift. I've emailed this guy many, many, MANY times trying to figure out what he wants. He's sent me pictures he's found on the web of different knives he's liked and I can't pull the...
