    Didn’t have an axe drift and too broke and didn’t have the time to order one and wait for it to get here, so I grabbed a hammer bit from the rental place and forged one, this thing was shaped like a 2”x 2” X2” cube meat tenderizer at the end lots and lots of forging

    I don’t like the 5160 mild steel combo, it feels weird under the hammer, even at welding heat there is a major difference in how soft the mild steel is vs the 5160, it spreads laterally really fast and you really gotta keep on top of squaring your edges up.     Forged out another camp axe. Mild steel body with a 5160 bit forge welded in. The handle is American hickory.

    stand upwind when you burn the used portions, speaking from experience, the more diesel you pour onto the fire the better the smell coming off of it.
