Boss Dog hit the nail on the head. I call it "seeing the light" Take those small steps and they add up to better and better images. Big improvement with a simple fix :)

Objective rating system for knife photographs

I agree completely... Duplicate ratings. As for the poster I like it, but you don't have to show the whole thing. The knife is the star, the others are extras. Cropped closer, with the knife tipped a bit more it'd be a different shot. I really like the way he looks at her, she looks at the...

Objective rating system for knife photographs

Anthony, its a great shot. And now knowing what it was intended for I'd say you really hit the nail on the head. There's no magic going on here. It's all about practice and attention to detail. Maybe a little luck too ;)

Objective rating system for knife photographs

Edited to add: You guys are fast! my critique below is for Buddy's original image. Great idea Buddy. JD, this system gives those of us who don't have an extensive knowledge of photography a system or frame work to work with in and it'll lead to discussion. All should learn and benefit. As...

Week 2 Photo Contest Voting CLOSED

Tough is right. There are a couple shots that would be so much better if they were centered left and right… and when you are eliminating based on nits like that... it is a good group. Buddy's shot is stellar as always, But my vote goes to Fred's Edge in Post #19. It may not be as technically...

Week 3 Photo contest -CLOSED for entries

A Brusletto kit blade that I did the handle on. This is one of my go to users. Shot in the light box, 2 lights and a white board to lighten the shadows. I slightly opened up the shadow, on the bottom of the handle, in Light Room and added a hint of a vignette to focus attention on the center of...

    week 2 Photo contest CLOSED

Week 2 submission… Something from the archives, shot before I had my light tent and hot lights. I'm a sucker for reflections. :D This was shot on a black plexiglass scrap. Here is the set The light source is an old light box like you'd use to view your slides or trace artwork like a...

Is it okay to photoshop a knife your selling?

I've never sold a knife... but... I would think that as long as you aren't misrepresenting the piece (hiding flaws), adjusting the photo would be fine.

Theme assignments for upcoming Photo Contest weeks

Great idea. I like all of the challenges. If you want to make one really hard... 3+ knives. It'd be fun to see everyone's sets as well, but that's me.
