VOTING CLOSED Dec 8-15 - Voting Photo Contest Week 1, Dec 1-7

JWestHurl for me. I thought that showcased the knife well as well as the story behind it. The composition was good, the eye kept moving and coming back to the knife. The colors were not only in tune with the subject matter, they were distributed evenly thru out the frame.

Post pics here for critique - must have thick skin

OOPS! Apologies. As the boss dog said, the higher the f-stop the smaller the aperture and that requires more light so the slower the shutter speed.

A good camera? How much to spend?

Shooting tethered to a laptop (or desktop) is certainly the way to go. Concerning $$$ spent, it is one of those how much do you really need scenarios. You could buy a budget rifle and kill deer every year with it and it would be fine. Then if you want to punch paper at distance or shoot...

Yes you can edit in Photobucket. I hardly ever use that feature though. I believe you'd use their 'warmth' tool to adjust the blue (cool) cast. Does your camera have a little flower icon? That is the macro setting for close ups and good for knife photos on a point and shoot. Remember, the...

Scott, I hope you don't mind me messing with your photo, but I think it is the best way to explain myself. I'm one of those people that can't talk without a pencil in my hand lol First the photo had a decidedly blue cast to it. This is a 'white balance' issue. You should be able to set your...

Post Week 1 (Dec 1 -7) Knife Photo Contest Pictures here

I'll throw one in the ring :) This was shot in a light tent with two "hot" lights. Basically color corrected bulbs in reflectors. (A photo of my "set" is in the thread announcing the contest) The background is a sheet of leather like paper. Camera (Rebel XSi) on a tripod. EF50mm f1.4 USM lens...

Rudy, if I may ;) The essence of photography is seeing the light. Look for bright spots, dark shadows and reflections. There is a lot more juggling the knife around relative to the light source than there is actually snapping the photo. With a mirror finish blade you need something to reflect in...

$250 in knife supplies for ten week Knife Photo Contest - Improve your Knife Photo's

Question. Is a photo that is hosted on photobucket and attached here like this Acceptable for the contest? Or do I have to actually upload it from my hard drive to the forum hosting? The contest is a great idea… thank you :)

    Photo Editing software

Photoshop is part of my job requirement. I think it is similar to playing the piano. You can play chopsticks, you can play in bars and then there will always be the guys that can play Lincoln Center. It is a powerful program that is the best for retouching, creating and combining photos. Is it...
