    First flipper

Well it has been a long build but I’ve finally finished my first flipper. I learned a lot - particularly that these are not easy, so my hat goes off to anyone making these in their home workshop! A mill would certainly make the build easier but I guess it shows you don’t need one. I am really...

    LINERLOCK - WIP

For both liners I use titanium (6AL-4v) and the scales are G10 but of course micarta, wood or any of the other handle materials could be used.

    LINERLOCK - WIP

Hi Aikenn Here are some pics of my setup - here I am working on a framelock but the linerlock is exactly the same (only thinner). The block I attach the liner too is shown here and you can see I have already bent the lock bar. Then I use a piece of G10 clamped to me work rest to present the...

    LINERLOCK - WIP

Hey Aikenn Thanks for your interest in my folder and workflow. For the angle on the liner lock face I used a kind of jig setup I guess where I was able to hold the liner against a piece of angle and then using a piece of micarta stuck behind the lock I could hold it out at an angle and grind...

    Titanium Frame Lock Wharncliffe

I feel your pain Justin as I am in exactly the same boat. Trying my first flipper without a mill. I’ve binned a couple so far but I will get there sooner or later. I have opted for bearings which is another first for me in the hope of getting a very smooth action. I really like the finish you...

    LINERLOCK - WIP

Thanks Tracey The Ti liner is 0.06 (from USA knifemaker) and I tend to agree with your method - heating and bending seems to produce a nicer result. Thanks for your input!

    Help with stop pins

Great info there Tracey - can you explain what a “floating stop pin” is please? I’m only making small numbers and one offs and I don’t have a mill but I have a hunch that the way I do my stop pins are probably what you are referring to.

    Another linerlock

Thanks for the comments guys. Tracey, it was your linerlock template that got me into these pocket knives and really got to understand how they go together - kind of like training wheels so much credit goes to your product and your how to videos that accompanied them. All the hardware is USA...

    Another linerlock

Hi everyone Over the weekend I managed to finish this linerlock and thought I would share some pics. All went pretty smoothly on this one and I’m gaining confidence with these now. Plenty of areas to improve but lots of fun. I left a belt finish on the blade for this little user. Titanium...

What's going on in your shop?

For once this seemed to just work out very straightforward- that hardly ever happens.....

What's going on in your shop?

Going to see if I can make a pocket clip for a liner lock I’ve been working on. This could turn out ok or be a complete failure!

    Simple knife design program??

I’ve been using solid edge From Siemens - it’s free and seems to have a lot of features. Bit of a learning curve but not too bad.

    Band saw blades

I’ve never had a problem with 1/2 inch blades once I bought good quality ones. Before that blades jumping off were normal - now it is very rare indeed. Locally in Australia I get my bimetal blades from McDiven saws - they may well ship to NZ and are probably worth a call?

    LINERLOCK - WIP

Well I finished this last weekend but been slack to update. Overall I’m very happy with this since I learnt so much and I have a knife to carry and use that feels great in the hand. There is a massive amount of time in this knife. Room for improvement? Always. But I enjoyed it and will continue...

    LINERLOCK - WIP

Hi Sean I bought them from the following knife maker supply company in South Africa. It was my first time ordering something from them and an happy to report all went well. http://www.kmts.co.za/Main.asp?D=%7B19B47F24-0C87-49F9-AC06-7014534E9A6B%7D&PageType=Product&CategoryID=184&SKU=TDC10%2F44...

    LINERLOCK - WIP

My blades are back from heat treatment and I found some time yesterday to work on my folder. I have three to complete but am working on just one now through to the end and hope the mistakes I make on this one will result in the others being better! Liners were marked out and cut on the bandsaw...

    A new toy

I’m not sure if my picture worked but it is similar to this one: http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/threads/23853-4x6-Bandsaw-Mini-uTable?referrerid=0 If you go to google images and type in “4x6 bandsaw table” or “4x6 bandsaw mods” you will get heaps of ideas.
