Good afternoon guys, I could use some help please. I am starting to branch out on my steels. I have gone to KC’s website and looked up info on 5160 steel. The site is excellent and I have used his information on O-1 steel and it works like a charm. The problem is I am read the information on...

    Oven controllers and relays

Thanks guys, I understand what you are saying about the cycling of the oven and the % of variance in the temp. As far as alloys. I am starting with simple alloys, lots of O-1 to start with. ( after chatting with Ed.) However, depending on time etc I would like to try other alloys and eventually...

    Oven controllers and relays

Good morning Knifedogs, I've ordered an Evenheat oven, but I forget to spec out my controller. So my question is the TAP controller worth the cost vs a Rampmaster? The other part of this post any thoughts on the solid state relays? Thanks Mike

Do you guys think the McMaster quenching oil (11sec) would work on the O-1? Do you think it would on the other...

    Ht 5160

Kevin, Thanks for writing back. Good info on the quench oil for 5160. I understand what you are saying on the 5160 in smaller to medium size blades. My reason for starting there was pure economics. I have a large amount of 5160 just laying around my shop. My thought was if I goof up a grind it...

    Ht 5160

Hey folks, i am a rank newbie! Need some suggestions what quench to use on 5160 steel. The majority of my blades are smaller to medium size. Side note I have had heck of a time of finding Parks 50. Anyone using McMaster Carr either 11 sec or 28 sec quench oil for 5160? Thanks Mike
