Lovely little knife. I really like the way the harpoon swedge accents the san mai at the spine too.

A knife designed by a master engraver

Looks like a good design. I'm also looking forward to seeing the result. The added piece to clamp the scales to is good thinking.

    52100

I've got four blades (two chef, two smaller) of this 52100 profiled and drilled but not beveled. Is there any reason that I can't wrap them together in one piece of foil for the temp cycling? If so, should I extend the soak times a little, say to 15 minutes?

    bolts for handle material

For personal opinion: I dislike big blobs of metal in the middle of my nice handles. At this point I use either 3/16 copper corby bolts or 1/4 copper Loveless with brass screws. The Loveless do have a visible join between the screw and the copper, but I much prefer a dot of brass in the...

    bolts for handle material

They all require countersinking and thus work best with a special drill bit.

    Fun with "Fossil"

Those are my favorites of the fossil damascus I've seen. I think the nickle and twisting helped but also think the fact the all of your fossil pieces were triangular helped.
