    NT Kith 2013

Here's a teaser for my entry. Nothing is glued up yet and the handle block is bedded but obviously unshaped at this point. LOTS of firsts for me in this project -- I have sort of a WIP set of pictures I'll be posting once it is done. Only problem is that there is almost no chance I'll...

    new neck knife prototype

Attractive design, looks like it might be comfortable to use but too much of skinner for my taste in neck knives.

Portaband and Swag table vs. Harbor Freight 4x6

I have both and use the portaband much more. It's biggest problem is a maximum cut depth of about 5".

Sharpening Methods and their Effects on Heat Treatments

I don't have the images, he used them in a presentation at Ashokan a couple of years ago. However I suspect that all of them and more are available in his book, which is something like a doctoral thesis with knife edges as the topic. Messerklingen und Stahl ("Knife blades and steel") Roman...

Sharpening Methods and their Effects on Heat Treatments

I've heard Roman talk about this in person. He's concerned with what he considers "the edge" of a sharp knife. He defines this as the last 30 microns with the actual edge itself being less than 1 micron across the "blunt" part. Nothing in this scale is optically visible, even with a...

A pair of Scottish dirks- -one sambar stag one is handled with elk.

Beautiful work Fred. The blade and fittings are simple and elegant examples of the tradition and the sheaths, especially the black wrap one, show some real creativity.

But if the trade was officially with the father that wouldn't be a problem, right?

Really good looking grinding Sam. Keep that up and you're going to start getting a rep for polished, shiny pieces :-)

    Last warning on version upgrade

I've been using the Tapatalk Forum App with Bladeforums on my Android tablet and like it much better than the custom Knifedogs app. Maybe it would be better to just ensure that Tapatalk works well for Knifedogs?

    Sword billet

Impressive billet and good to see Jr at work. The pimped press looks to be holding up well too :-)

    A Frontier still life...

Very nice indeed. The hawk, the still life, all of the other pieces. Beautiful assembly. Now for a question: If the spike was forged separately how is it attached to the rest of the head?

Zirconium Belts vs Aluminum Oxide belts for handle shaping

I've been wondering about where to get open coated 2x72 belts after trying a piece of coarse open coated paper on my disk grinder and being amazed at how well it cleaned up stabilized wood blocks back from WSSI as well as how long it lasted. Do you carry open coated AO belts in, say, 40-80 grit?
