    Pocket clips..Tip up or down?

It seems to me that the trend now days is in favor of tip up, especially on tactical folders. Most knives I've bought (back when I used to do that) and a few I've made had tip down carry, and I think I prefer that more. From what I can tell though, it seems like most buyers prefer the tip...

Best band saw blade for Ti?

Currently, all I have for a bandsaw is a portable unit. It runs the little 44 7/8" blades. I have been fighting with Ti every since I started using it. I was hoping that I could get some pointers on what you guys are using to cut this stuff. I have a call in to a metallurgist at Sterrett, and...

Folder blade / liner clearance..What is acceptable to you?

Not sure if anyone has ever used actual ball bearings in a slipjoint design. IMO, it would be extremely difficult to not peen too far, thus destroying some part of the bearing or surface it is riding on. I could be clueless though..just the first thought that comes to mind.

Folder blade / liner clearance..What is acceptable to you?

This would not be too bad. Problem is, my Ti liner material is only .048". If I cut down to .042", that only leaves my a hair's thickness of material there, and that makes me uncomfortable. When I did the framelock, it was not a problem for that side's counterbore, because the material was...

Folder blade / liner clearance..What is acceptable to you?

I started using bearings in my folders a few years ago, and I really like the smooth performance. However, a problem I have fought with constantly is the blade gap between the blade itself and the handle sides. I use some bearings which are some of the smallest available. They have a .125"...

    Blade show

I got to see several people I know, but it was more just running people down that I intended to see. Great to meet Josh Dabney. Just as good of a guy in person as he is here on the forum..a mentor to many for sure. I had a chance to speak with Les George and also Steve Davis - another good...

    Black coating on tactical knives

I used some gun blue to do a muzzle device I made for a rifle. I could not get it all the way black. It's close, but not black. Is this similar to phosphate Parkerizing?

    Black coating on tactical knives

How is this done? I posted about this over in the general forum, but nobody has answered. I figured some of you here may know. I've seen where someone was using Cerakote, but I was thinking it was some sort of phosphate type finish? What are the options for achieving this type of finish?

Best blade steel for a tactical knife?

Ok. Looks like I can do both S30V and S35VN. For some reason I had always thought those were some of the ones I had not used because they turn out best with a cryo treatment. I don't have that capability, and I like to do my heat treating by myself. I see they might benefit from it, but based on...

Best blade steel for a tactical knife?

Thanks for the tips. I've done a few in 440c and still have. Few blanks of that, but I was wondering about the CPM steels.

Best blade steel for a tactical knife?

Nevermind on the kydex. That looks easy enough. The other two questions still apply though.

Best blade steel for a tactical knife?

I want to start working on some tactical knives. They will be straight knives with a full tang, and likely have something like micarta for the handle scales. I was wondering what steel is most popular. Also, I notice a lot of these knives are coated black. I'm sure some of them are some sort...

Got my FB page up and running

Hey folks, I finally got a chance to get my facebook page up and running. I created the page a few years ago but I've not really had anything good to put on it. Now that I had some good pictures I put it up. Figured I'd post a link here so that some of you guys could stop by If you'd like...

I just ordered Little Machine shop's mini mill

I bought one back in 2011, but mine does not have the solid column. Here is the thread with some good info: http://KnifeDogs.com/showthread.php?19971-Finally-broke-down-and-did-it-got-myself-a-mini-mill The solid column will add needed rigidity to the machine. I ended up completely tearing...
