If you have a drill press, a flat end endmill bit works great for the inletting. I used a Dremel for quite a few hidden tangs before I had funds to buy a drill press. Yep on the (hidden) pins, too. I like DB's advice.

Great looking kids! I think it's great to have kids in the shop when the power is off and they are under constant supervision. I have the some of the grandkids in the shop when I have the power off and I never take my eyes off them. It was a lot different when I was a kid many years ago...

I finally gave up on trying finishes and now have all my wood stabilized. The best finish for untreated wood I did find is the Birchwood Casey (SP?) stuff in the small bottle.

I think there is some confusion here between fossil coral and regular coral, no busting intended. The fossil coral I have and have used is hard as agate. Lapidary equipment has been the norm for me working the stuff.
