    I always grind freehand for flat or hollow grinds......a tool rest restricts my movements too much......when i am grinding very thin fillet knives etc I use about 4 of those little rare earth magnets and an appropriate size backing bar and it gives me plenty of thickness to support the blade on...

    DIY Buffer, searched and want to make sure my set-up is ok.

    I use a pair of 1 1/2 hp 3600 rpm baldor buffers that i bought 40 years ago and i use 8 inch buffing wheels on them.......I can really put a lot of weight into the buffer without slowing them down........as long as you develop good safe buffing techniques you can buff handles,blades ,any thing...

    smells like dog poo.......if you are cutting up a large chunk it kills the bandsaw blade and it plugs and ruins all the fine grits of grinding belts but worth it at the end of the day.....

    I do not use aeb-l.......does it still warp if you are heat treating the blade before grinding the bevels? I grind all my thin blades post heat treat.

    Looking for a short cut

    I get good results with a rotary platen running slow.......also finish up with a 3m micron finishing belt 30 micron and then 15 micron......there is a huge difference between the trizact and the micron belts for finishing......i usually stop at 45 on the trizact and got to the micron then

    probably would work on a smaller blade 3 or 4 inch if it is as thin as you say......always better with the oxy /act

    maybe you should use the oxy/act torch and do an edge quench........you can control the heat a lot safer......very easy to warp those thin blades heating in the forge.......added bonus is you will get a cool hamon
