    Thong tube

I have recently been drilling my thong holes to 5/16 or on larger knives 3/8........and not using any tube at all.......puma knives from germany used to do this and would have a leather thong attached to the sheath that they would push thru the hole and loop over the top of the handle for added...

    sawblade hardness

sawblade steel will harden and temper great.......it is not hard enough on its own to grind a knife from without hardening and tempering......you can heat the edge with an oxy/acet torch to non magnetic and quench in oil and a file will skate great....temper at 375.....will actually show a good...

    Passing of Chris Marks

I shared a booth at the blade show with chris and some of the other louisana blade smiths in the mid 80,s and it was such a wonderful time......as a canadian i loved their cajun accent......he made me a damascus bowie knife with an oosic handle on a trade and it is a treasured part of my...

    ceramic belts?

I agree......norax and trizacts are the way to go........they last way longer......i always use norton blaze orange up to 120 grit......when they start to get dull grindng bevels i use them to grind profiles using pressure to refracture the ceramic and get a lot more use out of them

    Rounded plunge line question.

I find when rough grinding with ceramic belts the plunge is pretty sharp.......as the grit gets finer use a lighter backed finishing belt and they flex quite well and produce a great radius...as ed says don't be shy about how much you track it over.....on thicker blades as much as 1/4 inch is...

    Question about using a buffer.

I do a lot of polished blades and handles and i agree the buffer deserves a lot of respect but if when using the buffer you have the same focus as finish grinding a hollow ground blade you should not be nervous using it.....buffing just has a different set of rules

    Anvil

sean by the looks of that anvil $900 is not a very good buy .......it looks to me in the picture that besides the edges being bad that the surface appears to be a thin plate of steel on top of a cast body......also the raised letters on the name are a cast giveaway.......i dont think i have...

Can hot scale pins damage the epoxy?

I use stainless pins a lot .......the larger the pin the hotter they get......1/8 pins are not so bad.....1/4 pins like to get hot.......just go slow with a new sharp belt and keep switching from one pin to the next so as not to get them too hot.....the first rough grind is the worst but as soon...
