    Missouri clubs ?

Bubba and I met at the January knife show at the carpenters hall , just ran short on time for much discussion about a club . But I still would like to get some makers together . My big holdup is I need about 10 more hours in the day to keep up,at work and home . I will be putting up a thread...

    Will head bolts work?

I like the head bolt idea if it turns out to be decent steel . An integral design with the head left on would be a cool look , too . I'm all for using " pre-owned " steel and handle material . I'm a " junkyard " dog .

Ouch! What to safely cover blade with

The blue masking tape works good for me . Doesn't leave a hard to clean residue , either . Is there any particular reason you don't want to use tape ? Dan

    Stamp or Etch ?

My question is ; which is the best way to go , stamping or electrochemical etching ? I've been leaning toward getting a tang stamp made . Is etching as complicated as it seems ? Also seems to me , I could mess up easier than using a stamp . Next , who is a good source for stamps ...

    I've been wondering....

I thought that handshake thing was for real . Maybe that was just thumb wrestling. Seriously though , if you make a knife that I either artistic our usable , and continue striving to put out better work , you are a knifemaker . Congrats ...

First timer needing help with metal selection

To pick up some 5160 you can ask a service tech from a john deere dealership for load control shaft out of a 20, 30, 40 or 50 series tractor , or a couple straw chopper knives from a 20 or 9000 series combine . Depending on where you live in Mo I have some stuff I might be able to hook you up...

    Question on blade finsihing

If you live close to a machine shop or welding shop , the guys there would probably hit it in the bead blaster for you . It might only cost you a little time talking steel and knives with them . At least you might see if you like a blasted finish , for your current needs .

    Hammer-ins ?

Does anyone know of any upcoming hammer-ins around central or northeast Missouri ? I am trying to get started forging , and would like to learn some techniques to forge the best blades I can . Contacts with a few makers would be great , also . Thanks Dan
