Which forge shape is the easiest to heat up and maintain heat ? I've been playing around with some stacked firebrick and had mixed results . I was wondering if a round chamber would be more efficient .
Dan
My bug-out bag has a couple additional items , a cresent wrench , heavy wire cutters , and hammer hawk . I also keep a magnesium bar and flint . I like the bandanna idea , too .
That was a.pretty good show.on St.Louis . No supply vendors though . I did talk to a few Missouri makers ,hot some gray information . And it was good meet Bubba .
We didn't get but 5" or so . And it will take more than that to hold me back ! I will be there . Bubba if ya go let me know , and that for a for anyone else interested in a Missouri knifemakers club . I should be there before 10 am Saturday morning .
Hope to see a bunch of Missouri guys...
I hope to be able to devote a lot mote time to my learning of the techniques , in the coming year . But until I can get some time around an experienced bladesmith , I really appreciate all the info you guys share .

I second that question ! I have been doing it the same way , a few ready to grind pics ,would be nice .
I've been hammering out as much as I can then grinding , so far so good .
I will bring a couple pieces of the load control shafts with me to the St.Louis knife show on Saturday . Bubba-san , you might try a piece and see what you think .
For anyone going to the Stl show . I should be there Saturday morning about 9:30 or 10:00 am . Maybe a few of us van get a thing or two figured out about the particulars of starting a Missouri knifemakers club .
Thanks for the tips guys. As soon as I get all the parts to finish rebuilding the transmission out of my pickup . I'll have room and time to do some experimentation .
Maybe a few of us can get together at the St.Louis knife show . I know there will be some Missouri makers there . On Jan 22-23 @ the carpenters union hall on Watson road .
I think I will try a similar design to that side arm burner . When I get a few other things done . I'll post back in a couple days and let y'all if it works .
