Andrew ... Looking good sir. You should be able to quench the W1 in water with a little care. Normalize the blade a couple times then clay it up and heat to just barely non-magnetic with no soak time. Quench in warm water and hold it still. Don't move it around in the quench.

I know you've probably heard it before ... but wear a good respirator when grinding/sanding micarta. Phenolic dust and nasal passages and lungs don't get along well. Otherwise sounds good. Good luck!2thumbs

I have been making knives since 1991 and specializing in clay tempered Japanese styles since 2004. I love the rush when you plunge the hot steel into water and run to the etch tank to see how the hamon came out and whether or not the edge cracked.

This is my buddy JACK. Half Pit Bull and half Yellow Lab. Not much of a shop dog, but he'll eat anything... dog food, steak, mulberry trees, people. Don't know what I's do without him around.
