    Need some leather working advice.

I started with a couple of basic tools I bought at Hobby Lobby on their weekly 40% off coupon - Basketweave and a border stamp. And some heavy duty needles and waxed cotton stitching thread. I used an old fork for marking equal distance line for holes and a nail in the drill press to make the...

    Looking for a short cut

I have a pair of fingerless biking gloves that have quite a bit of padding on the palm area... wonder if something like that would help ease the vibration?

What's going on in your shop?

Was shaping a handle on the OSS and must have got the mosaic pins too hot... The internals started sliding out. Grrrrrr....#@$@#! Don't do that. Super glue it and call it a practice knife I guess.

    Paypal

Ebay is dumping PayPal too it appears and asking for direct deposit information. Last week I did what Ed suggested above and just set up a totally separate Visa debit card account I will use only for those transactions.

Filet Knife Sheath I just finished. Oops'd on the dye job...

Thanks. It's my 6th or 7th. Each one gets a little better. Some great WIPs by Dennis Moreland in this forum have really helped a lot.

Filet Knife Sheath I just finished. Oops'd on the dye job...

Finished this one up this past weekend. Had a dye job oops that I tried to work around. I was being really careful about keeping the darker border dye off the basket weave so I could antique it. Let that dry and decided to dye the back side (inside). Flipped it over on a clean paper towel and...

    Reamer size

Here is a picture from a video I saw (maybe from somebody here) that shows what bits to use for a slightly larger hole for each common size. Hopefully helpful. Sorry for the bad quality.

    building a cannon...

Cool! In the last century I was volunteer crew on an old sailing ship and they had a small black powder deck cannon originally meant to be used as a line-throwing gun. A Coors can filled with plaster of paris was just the right fit and made a great projectile. Similar to this:

    Grit in sheath

That's the dilemma, the alternative is something with a strap that snaps to hold the knife in place, but that only works well if there is a part of the handle that sticks out like the guard or significant contouring. For some filet knives I have made a folded over plastic insert that both...

    Tru Oil tip

A layer or two of saran wrap under the cap seems to help keep my Tru-oil from drying out. Do that on my leather dye bottles too.

    Who made this knive?

It appears that these maybe were made or commissioned by that jeweler as presentation pieces with engravable silver fittings on the sheath/scabbard. One discussion I saw said they thought the blade was made by Brusletto. One site was selling an interesting one presented to VP Walter Mondale...

    Who made this knive?

Would like to see a picture of the knife also... Any markings on the knife itself?

    Shaping Handles?

I use a lot of different tools along the way. 6x48 Belt/9" disc sander, 1x30 belt sander and drill press with sanding drums for contours have been my workhorses. But one is too aggressive sometimes and the others are slow and frustrating. I also do a lot of Dremel work and filing and hand...

    New sheath maker

That's really cool! I'm still working on just getting my basketweaves to line up... don't think I have the artistry or patience in me to make something like that.
