What coating for carbon damascus to prevent rust?

What would you guys use to coat a piece of carbon damascus that is going to see semi-regular handling and moisture? I thought about regular spray clearcoat, but I'm not sure... FWIW, this is not for a knife, but instead for a golf divot tool.

Double guard and framed handle, rear bolsters too

Double-bolster is something I've never tried (yet). Thank you again again again for this WIP, as I'm sure I'll be back to reference it in the future.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you Bruce.

    Green mammoth bark folder!

Congrats to Randy Jr, and I have to say... The work you are turning out is just over-the-top amazing!

Double guard and framed handle, rear bolsters too

You have my attention. :) And I already have a question. When you are measuring the thickness of the tang, do you keep the tang thickness equal to the ricasso thickness? To ask another way... I know the tang is stepped down in width on the front and back, but is it also more narrow than the...

    Let's play... Name that wood.

Good to know guys! I never really thought about those reasons, but I bought my Gf and Mom each a custom end-grain black walnut cutting block for Christmas this year. No cheap-o boards for us. :) While I have some very knowledgeable attention on this thread. I am about to make 2 kitchen...

    Let's play... Name that wood.

I'm sure I had that same look ok my face when he said it, but I didn't have the heart (or the time) to explain...

    Let's play... Name that wood.

Wow. I think you nailed it. Based on the pic below, it looks exactly like Olive wood burl. :) I picked up this piece at TJ Max for $10, because it was not labeled and that's what the same size bamboo cutting boards were selling for. The guy at the register said he thought it was Grape...

    Brandon Miller Knife Maker Extraordinaire!!!

I'd give you $125 for another like #6 all day, every day. :) Great progress and very cool to see it all in 1 thread like this. Question... are you doing anything to lighten the tang of the knife? They look great as-shown, but since you are gluing up your scales, you could swiss cheese the...

    Let's play... Name that wood.

I bought this as a cutting board, but I think its actually intended to be a serving platter. Either way, that's not why I bought it. The wood is quite dense and heavy, so I'm thinking of cutting it up for handles or scales. Anyone recognize the type of wood? Honest question because I...

Question on Kitchen knife handle hardware

The drill press makes good sense (since I don't have an arbor press). I actually flare my kydex rivets that way by chucking the punch and just putting the anvil under the material.

Question on Kitchen knife handle hardware

Looks good Josh. I've got a sample pair coming from USAKM with my order :-) How did you decide how far to countersink if you pressed them in during glue up?

Question on Kitchen knife handle hardware

Now I see it on the USAKM site, but it's out of stock. There is a local custom woodworkers supply store, so I may check there this week for it also. I know they have a large section of adhesives.

Question on Kitchen knife handle hardware

Why you hijackin' my thread, eh? :) I really like the idea of those cutler's rivets. I can certainly see these being preferred (by myself) over Corby's and certainly over Lovelace bolts. I guess with some Brass Black, they could be finished off pretty dark after sanding.

Question on Kitchen knife handle hardware

Thanks Laurence and Doug. I just needed a double-check of approval on the micarta. Just placed my largest order ever with Boss. :) Not a fan of lovelace bolts, and I want to honor his request of slightly 'tactical' looking... so I have some 6-32 and 4-40 button heads (all black) ordered...

Question on Kitchen knife handle hardware

I've been approached by someone looking for a pair of kitchen knives with a little "more tactical look" than most kitchen knives. 1 utility (6" blade) and 1 paring (3.5" blade), and the design and materials are all up to me (although he did request carbon steel). In my mind, I'm looking at...
