    Pivot Screws

Hey! Has anyone ever used vibra-tite vc3 on any folder screws? I ran across some on Alpha Knife supply by accident the other day. It is like loc tite but screws can be removed or adjusted up to 6 times I think before it has to be reapplied. I looked at the reviews on amazon and people rave...

    Blade failure success!

Ghanks again for the info guys. So would it be best for a large chopper to apply clay and achieve a softer spine that way or to only heat the bottom third of the blade with a rosebud and fully quench the entire blade? I guess im looking for more of a spring temper on the spine than fully soft...

    Blade failure success!

Thanks for the info Mike. I'll give that a try. I have some 5160 but it is not big enough for stock removal. I bought it to start learning how to forge. I did look at the grain. Seems very fine grained down towards the edge and more course up at the spine. I ran it across a 100 grit belt and...

    Blade failure success!

I agree that using a knife as a pry bar is abuse but I think what I am after is a blade that will hold an edge for chopping wood or making kindling and general camp use but will be flexible enough to baton with as well. The ABS test knives seem to hold a phenomenal edge and be tough as well...

    Blade failure success!

OK. I finally took the leap and made an entire knife just for the purpose of testing it's performance and then getting it to fail no matter what it took. We had a trip planned to go to Colorado so I rushed to make the knife so I could test it with some good chopping and firewood prep. The 1084...

    Prayers needed

Prayer is a powerful thing! You can count on it! Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your...

stuff that has mineral oil i can use for knives?

Thanks Tracy! I'm glad you posted the link. I was not aware that you carried it. I use the stuff like its water in my shop. Once you get over the smell it kinda becomes addicting I think. Great stuff and non-toxic to boot! I would highly recommend giving the stuff a try if all you have used in...

stuff that has mineral oil i can use for knives?

I know this is an older thread but thought I would throw in another thought for anybody that might stumble by. Balistol is an awesome lubricant and rust protector and is approved for use in food prep areas on on food prep tools by the FDA. Just a thought!

Plain jane slipjoint for The Blade Show.

How do you get the holes to line up well enough to get the final pin started? That has always been a booger for me. Thanks Calvin!

Plain jane slipjoint for The Blade Show.

Beautiful lines on that knife Calvin. I've made a couple of slippies. Love the process. What do you use for final assembly? I've always had a hard time placing that final pin. Do you use a jig to tension the spring?

    Roman knot file work?

I have to say I know Ian personally and have been to his shop several times. He has always been very welcoming to me and has been eager to teach me several of his techniques. I have never asked him about the Roman knot file work method and if he has been sworn to secrecy then I admire him for...

    Cutting Blanks

Can't say enough good things about my Milwaukee ports and with the SWAG off-road attachment for the vice. It is quick to get set up when I need it and tuck out of the way when I don't so it doesn't take up any floor space.

    cactus juice resin

I don't have any experience with pinecones personally but my Dad has done a few for turning custom pens. They are some of my favorite ones that he makes. He has always collected the closed pinecones for his purposes. Hope that helps!
