FILE GUIDE and how to use it

Still making the file guides Bruce? I've got a good friend of mine that is getting into knifemaking too. He asked me what tools he absolutely had to have after his grinder and I told him I would never want to be without my Bruce Bump file guide! Let me know if you have any around still. Thanks!

    New anodizer!

Happy New Years everybody!! I was busy today putting together all of the components that I have been collecting for an anodizer. I used a variac that cost me around 50 bucks and then a few odds and ends from Radio Shack that cost me about 10 bucks. I followed the directions on Jason Howell's...

    Christmas gift knives

Hey Knife Dogs! I have been working like a mad man trying to get several knives finished for Christmas gifts. The top knife is a kitchen knife for my Mom. It is CPM S30V cryo treated. The handles are from an old Pecan tree that grew in front of my grandparents old home place. Kinda plain wood...

    Osage Orange and 1084

Thanks guys! I just sanded the handle down to 600 grit and then burnished with 0000 steel wool and then applied a couple of coats of tru oil. I have used tru oil before and like it ok but for some reason it was a whole lot shinier this time. Almost too glossy for my taste. The only bad part was...

    Ooops! Wrong steel!

That is good to hear Tracy. I'll double check with Texas Knifemakers just to be sure of their process. They didn't do Rockwell testing that I know of. Didn't see any of the tell tell marks on the knife like I have before with Bos heat treating. This is the first time I have used Texas Mnifemakers.

    Help! I screwed up!

Thanks guys. I have a "booger bucket" that is getting pretty full these days. That is the great thing about knife making. It is a constant learning experience.

    Ooops! Wrong steel!

Ok. I'm an idiot. I sent some blades to Texas Knifemakers to have them heat treated and all of them were CPM-154 (or so I thought). When I got them back and started assembling them I realized that one was thinner and that I had cut that blade out and ground the bevels months ago. It was CPM-...

    Help! I screwed up!

No such luck. The handle is already epoxied and pinned on. It was a last minute design modification that got me in trouble. I have heard it say that there are no mistakes in knife making just design modifications. This one worked the other way around
