    You are progressing quite nicely There are a few different (textures? / grit(s)?) of scotch brite belt, I use them in much the same way I use sanding belts....start coarse and work towards the lighter grits.

    You can actually drive the pins out with a punch and hammer. Once the pins are out you can rest the knife on something strong and solid (anvil would be nice) so that the scale is on the surface and the rest of the knife is out in space...smack it with a hammer...couple of hits should do it...

    You want a t least 1.5 hp. As for the plunge lines I use a guide I made from some stainless pieces I had.
