What's the best way to put a 3/4" hole in a 0.200" thick piece of XHP?

Brian, That's a great suggestion. Then your not limited to one size hole. I guess the hole has to be at least as big as the cutter to start. Thanks. -John

    Finishing CPM3V

Butch, I have an evenheat oven, aluminum quench plates and cryo, but I still have not been successful getting it quench fast enough to get a Rockwell over 57. That's why I send it out. I want it to be about 61. What hardness are you getting doing it yourself? James, Great post. That's...

    Finishing CPM3V

It's not that bad. I take it to 100 microns before HT. Then after HT take the flats to 45 microns and the grind down to 16 microns. Start rubbing using Mobil one. I only take 3V to a 400 grit hand rubbed finish. No use to go any higher. It's definitely easier than S30V. 3V is the best...

What's the best way to put a 3/4" hole in a 0.200" thick piece of XHP?

As the title says. I want a clean hole. I'm thinking 4 flute standard endmill is the way to go. What about a hole saw? I don't like using drill bits that big, they tend to hang up. -John

    Finishing CPM3V

I etch my 3V blades in a diluted solution of ferric chloride and deionized water. I think that helps get rid of some of the surface carbon. After it has etched, I clean off the carbon and go over the surface with an OOO scotch brite pad. The blade will have a gray look to it. Overall, 3V...

    Framelock folder lock making problems

Also, make sure the face of the lock bar and the lock face are perpendicular to the cut you make. The way your is angled will not make for a good lock. -John

    Cutting Carbon Fiber??????

I cut a 0.60" thick piece in half with a porta band mounted vertically. I made a fence to keep it straight. It wasn't two bad. I ended up with two 0.25" pieces when I got them flat. Took me about 10 minutes at most. -John
