    Small Tosa

For a while I've thought about scaling down my Tosa design. The full sized Tosa is just a big knife. It has a 6" cutting edge and is 12" long. It is a little large for most folks to EDC. I love the design and just wanted to make a more EDC friendly version. This is what I came up with...

    First journey with Elmax steel

Ok. From what I can find, the soak time can affect grain growth. Especially, when the temp is over 2000 F. So you may be ok with the lower temp, but at 2100 F it seems important to watch the soak time. John

    First journey with Elmax steel

Let us know what hardness you get. My only concern for you is the duration of the soak time. Everything I've read on Elmax says 15min and not to oversoak. I am definitely not an authority on heat treating, but you may want to look into it. There are several threads here about it with...

    Elmax one off

Thanks guys. I expect a lot out of this Elmax. My understanding is it is like a stainless version on CPM 3V. I started doing a little cutting last night. I just wanted to get an assessment of how sharp the edge is initially. Here's the little mess I made. I started cutting some styrofoam...

How do you handle two or more blades?

The trouble with the warped tang isn't gravity. It means your tangs weren't ground even to start with or you got the steel too hot when tapering the tang. One other thing is that your foil and pull the tang when it's cooling. Try not to make your pouch too small. Leave plenty of room around...

    Elmax one off

I was given this piece of Elmax a few months back to test out. I've been swamped with a million different things, but I managed to squeak out this sweet little EDC size tanto. It's based on my Tanto necker design but just a little bigger with a more modern American tanto grind. The blade has...
