    pattern welded grosse messer wip

Greetings Everyone, this is truly a work-in-progress. However, it has made it through heat treatment, so I think it is safe to show the progress thus far. I am really enjoying these steels. They weld together well, have good contrast, and have similar heat treating characteristics. Plus...

    O1 vs 80CRV2

Well, I don't want to compare the two. I am chiming in because I have been combining the two (with 15n20) in pattern welding. They weld together beautifully, and since they have a similar heat treatment, make a great combo. If you want more than just black-and-silver in Damascus, adding the...

    Red Jungle Dog

I missed this one. It is one of my favorites that I have seen lately. I like it a lot. Is the steel like what we call 80CrV2 here in the states? (I am beginning to really like that steel). love the copper work. copper is wonderful.

    Utility/hunter in 1095

that looks very good. I would hand polish the bevels. Only use 1 thickness of abrasive paper at a time, and back it with steel or very hard wood. Or go crazy, and use shallow-hardening steels in the future and make hamons (which you may already do). The basic shape, grind lines, etc., all look...

    Chain Maille Bowie Knife

pretty cool. So Cory is obsessed with chainmail. Good thing the stuff we do with knives all of the time doesn't count as an obsession, right? (uh, I am right, aren't I?) looks great. kc

    Sword Steel ???/

DOOOOHHHH -- I didn't read closely enough. Sorry that I didn't (and can't) answer your question. see below. I suggest L6 or 80crv2. Very tough and also good edge retention due to carbides (especially the 80crv2).

    Is brass outdated?

I can't speak for higher end modern customs. I can only say that brass is appropriate for anything made to resemble period pieces from China (e.g., dao or jian). it is also appropriate for several other period remakes. Whether it is a hot commodity in the modern marketplace, I have no idea. It...

    New 'old' knife

I didn't realize he quit. I learned a lot from his tutorials on his website, and the video he did about making a tomahawk. He has a lot of talent, and comes across as a decent fellow. Hope he comes back into our fold. kc
