What's going on in your shop?

Speaking of which, if I liked that knife, (and I do, it would make a great rigging knife) I could look at the blade and come find you. I would even know what town to start in. That meets with my approval, and is stark contrast to maker's marks that are "written" (and I use the term loosely) in...

You guys are talking about the reason Adolf Hitler had such a weird mustache.

    Maker's Mark

If a maker insists on putting his mark on a perfectly good knife, at least have it large enough to read.

    Respirator failure..

No. I've spent a lifetime in the trades and never worn a respirator. The only time I got into trouble was thirty years ago, cutting galvanized steel with a torch.

    Books/Sites Concerning Design?

I wasn't particularly impressed with Murray Carter. He's sort of full of himself, and he thinks he's become Japanese somehow. Admiring a culture is fine. Studying a culture is fine. Immersing yourself in it is fine. Believing that you've become Japanese is fantasy.

    Buying green cut wood question

All wood has bugs when it comes out of the forest. The question isn't if, the questions are which ones and how much. Different bugs have different sensitivity to both heat and lack of water. It's not just a question of any one element, it's also a question of time. Come on over, you can help me...

    Buying green cut wood question

Build a simple kiln. It's easy, and will kill bugs that air drying won't. The easiest kiln is just a box with a dehumidifier in it, and a hose from the drain on the dehumidifier leading out of the box. Start with a light bulb in the box, to raise the temperature. What happens is that the high...

What's going on in your shop?

The big difference (that I see) between Grizzly's 14" wood bandaws and the metal bandsaws (which start at 14") is that the metal bandsaws all include a blade welding station. It's up to you, of course, if you need that, but the only time I've wanted a blade welding station (and to buy blades in...

What's going on in your shop?

Speaking as a retired contractor, I'm a hard core Grizzly fan. I would buy there long before I would bother looking at other brands. The biggest problem I've had with Grizzly is waiting for them to wear out-- I wanted to replace a jointer, and argued with myself for about three years, hoping it...

What's going on in your shop?

I can tell by looking at them that those are some of Them. You know. One of those things that I've been doing just fine without, and as soon as I used one, I wouldn't be able to leave the bedroom without one ever again.

What's going on in your shop?

Huh. Okay. I never thought of it as "messing up" a good knife. I just thought of it as using a good knife. :)

    Recurve and Saddlehorn Flipper Folders

Thanks, Chris. Both those drawings seem to indicate that the handle is the scales. Another way of interpreting this conversation and the drawings is that both the liners and the scales are parts of the handles. Would anyone agree with that?

    Recurve and Saddlehorn Flipper Folders

Okay. I think we all agree about what part is the liner. What part is the handle?

Doesn't match what I understood. Do you have anything I can read with a diagram showing the handle, please?

    Liners

I see. Thanks. They're not a necessity, then.
