Asymmetrical Chisel Grind toughness test vid

Thanks guys! Laurence you are correct on the right and left handed grinds. I had some other parties stating they would steer or roll no matter the dominate hand but that just was not what I was seeing myself. Its not the end all be all but its a neat little grind that slices very well and does...

    52100

Darrin if I am wrong please set my post straight but I understand the multiple cycles used for Aldo's 52100 inpart to having started at 1650 and to shrink the carbides that were released into solution at the higher temp. The Higher starting temp ,1650, Allows more carbides to be dissolved into...

Wounded Warrior Projects Deerpocalypse '13 knives

I was approach by our local WWP point man, John Nolan, to make a knife as a grand prize for their annual deer hunt. They did not know how long it would take to make a knife and the deadline was pretty quick. I mentioned it to Darren Sanders and in true blue fashion he mentioned having a blade he...

I did forget to mention it was Darrin that suggested chopping the elk antler to see how tough the blade was but after cutting so much of it it was getting too pithy for an honest test so i pulled out the buffalo horn.

Asymmetrical Chisel Grind toughness test vid

I made an Asymmetrical Chisel Ground blade to see how the design preformed and if the good and bad I had been warned and told abut were really true. I have been testing the blade for over a week 1/2 and have come to prefer the grind for what I desire in my hunting/ general bushcraft blades...

Looking for advice on optimizing grip for a hunting knife

I too am an avid hunter but dont care for wood handles on my personal users but I did frost a conversion varnish (fullerplast) to a set of wood scales that will seal and add texture to them. Same technique used when frosting the finish on traditional bows. Not sure if you want to buy a gallon...

    Lining Kydex Sheaths

I am late to the party but I have linned kydex sheaths before and its very easy to do. When I was making CCW holsters I hated how the kydex wore on the finish of my handguns so i started linning them with either deer skin or 3-4 oz leather. If you have a good press and properly heat your kydex...

    52100

I do the same for Aldos 52100 and foil the blades when normalizing to prevent decarb. I believe it was Kevin that worked that out and that 1650 was needed to unlock the carbides to allow 66-67Rc. Parks AAA for the quenchant. 52100 has been referred to as the poormans O1. All in all I enjoy...

    bolts for handle material

Dont forget JP bolts. I make my own and its very easy to do so. It allows you to make custom sizes to fit your needs. simply cut some stock drill and tap for the size bolt or hex you are wanting to use and your done.

    Yikes, 52100 Question!

Mike I ht aldos just as Kevin has stated but I do foil wrap the blade while soaking at 1650* I add a small piece of paper in with the blade and double wrap it. Leave it wrapped till the third Normalizing cycle is over then I sprinkle on some pbc go back to 1475 for 10 after it equalizes and...

    Proofing my HT oven thermocouple

The tempil sticks came in today and so I went right away to get the oven warmed up. I checked it at 450 and 500. both sticks melted within 20* of the target temp however I never got the 1450 to ever melt or mark the steel. I broke pieces of the tempil stick off and tried it but nothing. it would...

    wood finishes and non-stabilized...superglue?

Yes before I purchased the fullerplast I finished my risers with thinned epoxy. Oily woods like coco still gave me fits and needed to be CA sealed once or twice ymmv. The fullerplast is expensive if all you are doing are a couple handles but if working with larger pieces of wood I have used...
