The Great Bruce Bump File Guide Give Away Contest!

Congratulations Aaron, and thanks Laurence and Bruce! This was a great WIP, and I too am pleased that Laurence worked through the pain to get this project finished. Way to go guys! :57:

The Great Bruce Bump File Guide Give Away Contest!

LOL! Laurence I think you made our "small knife pup" Bruce a little squeamish! :D You are smart to do the physical therapy exercises, too. That will keep everything working and help keep the discomfort down to a shorter length of time. I think it's great that you can grind to a perfect center...

The Great Bruce Bump File Guide Give Away Contest!

Laurence, this is as great WIP! Thanks for sharing. I've never done the grinding on heat treated blank, but with 1/8"l steel maybe that's a good idea. I'm learning a lot, especially the use of cork belts for most finish grinding. I like that idea. Good luck with your recovery! Looking forward to...

The Great Bruce Bump File Guide Give Away Contest!

Yeah, you're gonna dig it, especially because... That'll be great Laurence! Where are you going to post it, so I can watch for it? I'd love to see how you make a knife.

The Great Bruce Bump File Guide Give Away Contest!

Way to go Aaron! That's a great slogan for Bruce's guides, and - okay, I gotta say it - I'm a little envious of you winning one of Laurence's knives. :) Looking forward to watching your first knife project too. That's a great adventure! Probably everyone remembers making their first knife...

FILE GUIDE and how to use it

I will second that. This is the best file guide you can imagine. The machining is beyond reproach, and the carbide is wonderful. I've used up several other file guides in my very short career, but I think this one is going to last me a good long while. Weird - I don't need two of these...but I...

    Frustration = Discovery!

Excellent! Yes, I'm on my third quarter-sheet sander dedicated to finishing flat ground blades. I'd never do it any other way anymore. But I never thought of backing the Micarta with cork - I think I like that idea. Where does one find this stuff? Auto store or somewhere? I've never used...

    Scraps from the Master's Table

    Looking forward to it Peter!

    Scraps from the Master's Table

Yes Peter, I used a loose buff for the finish. It worked beautifully. :)

    Scraps from the Master's Table

For what it's worth, I ended up spreading the CA with a small piece of a microfiber cloth. It worked quite well; I did sand a little between coats, but the final finish was stunning, even on ebony. Thanks Roger!

    Matchlock Axe/Pistol

Careful what you wish for! I might get on a plane one day and come to spend some awesome time with you and my friend Raymond Richard. Couple weeks between you guys and my knifemaking would turn a corner no one can imagine. Even with all the help you give online, there's nothing like watching and...

    Matchlock Axe/Pistol

Bruce, you wouldn't run me off giving me suggestions. I'd give my eye teeth (about the only ones I have left) to spend a few days in your shop!

    Matchlock Axe/Pistol

Laurence, I know what you're talking about with the folks who believe they want to build a knife, but then lose their drive when it gets hard and takes a long time. I've had about six people work with me on knife projects of their own; two of them are budding knife makers. I guess that's a...

    Matchlock Axe/Pistol

I was away for the weekend and look what I missed! Dang Bruce, this is coming along so nicely it's turning out just like I imagined. Maybe even better...but I have high expectations for these projects. :) Beautiful work Bruce, I'm really digging the way the serpentine works. Like I said before...

    Matchlock Axe/Pistol

Bruce, I've actually been thinking about getting a black powder rifle; I think that would be a 'blast!' The stop pins are the part I missed somehow, now I understand how the gates work. That is sure a cool mechanism - as cool as any part of the gun in my book. (Well, except that trigger guard.)...

    Matchlock Axe/Pistol

Thanks Patrice, that looks very promising! I'll download that and see what I can figure out on my own. One nice thing about OSS, there's support out there if you look for it. Excellent! And I have Inkscape on my Mac, will have to look into that too. I'm not very good with drawing software, but...
