Laurence, this is as great WIP! Thanks for sharing. I've never done the grinding on heat treated blank, but with 1/8"l steel maybe that's a good idea. Yes Peter, I used a loose buff for the finish. It worked beautifully. :)

For what it's worth, I ended up spreading the CA with a small piece of a microfiber cloth. It worked quite well; I did sand a little between coats, but the final finish was stunning, even on ebony. Thanks Roger!

Bruce, I've actually been thinking about getting a black powder rifle; I think that would be a 'blast!' The stop pins are the part I missed somehow, now I understand how the gates work. That is sure a cool mechanism - as cool as any part of the gun in my book. (Well, except that trigger guard.)...
