Need some help, new shop, new company

I don't know anything about the coot grinder, but for around 600 you can get a grizzly. That would leave you 1400 for more tools. A good drill press. A few good files, etc. Good luck!

List of tooling for new mill

My G0704 was just delivered last night, took me about 3 hours to set it up, clean it, do the break in procedure, and test it out. I did not tram it yet, but i did square the vice up and cut a nice slot in some 416 stainless. No problems at all, and I was expecting problems and frustration...

    Using foil when H/T

Fold every edge, then each corner, then each edge at least one more time. I slide a smooth face hammer along the seems, and smash the corners down to get a good airtight seam. This method seems to work for me. Good luck!

    2 ironwood and 2 dymondwood

I sand up to 600 grit, sometimes up to 1500, then buff and wax. Ironwood is my favorite. Use it more than any other handle material.

    How do you know...

The pursuit of perfection. For me, is one of the most appealing things about knife making. Unfortunately, it's also one of the most frustrating. Just have to know when to close up the shop and do something else for a while.

I agree. I also rip the sheets in half or 4ths.

    finally finished second knife

Looks pretty good! Much better than my second knife. Not a bad job on the vine filework also, might look a little better if the vine was thinner, but that's just an opinion. Are those brass liners? I did that on a knife once, looked nice but made an already handle heavy knife even heavier. I...

    Advice for finishing Antler

I have stained a couple but didn't like the results. Try a few different methods on scraps to see if you get the results your after. I have done a lot of elk antler knives and left them natural. I think they look good.
