    Claxe

Too far to the shop right now, but if you look in pic you wil see a .410 shotshell in the rear and a 30-30 cartridge in the front, which should give you an idea of scale. Steel is about 3/16 inch and is L-6, repurposed sawmill blades. This is not a pounding tool as in the hatchet....strictly...

I call this a claxe. Part hand axe part cleaver. Created to chop ribcages, pelvis and make kindling.

    Great Great Grandfathers hatchet

Some of the Swedish axes and hatchets are seen with a dovetail insert cutting edge. Does this hatchet exhibit that sort of construction, or is it a solid piece? Just curious. Great to have something from your G Grandad.

Hammer by Tom Clark and Hank Knickmeyer

I was lucky enough to attend Tom's school about 6 years ago and while there purchased one of his hammers. Also had a chance to watch the hammer making process in the air hammer room behind the class section. Tom will be missed and I still look for him at the Blacksmith gatherings.

Primal Bowie for retired SWAT, with progress pics

Nice work. Like the Turks head braiding. Never used the shellac composite approach. How is the durability of this composite?

Help a brother out ???? Tools to build ????

Just started on the NWG grinder/sander myself. And, I will probably make the alum. plate fixture for versatility as well, which is now included in the $25 plans price. Since I don't have a metal cutting bandsaw this will be interesting! And, likes someone else said, the wife and I are in the...

How many makers would be interested in a knife show in central Missouri?

As per our conversations, count me in Dale! Thanks.

What governs your knife making design & features?

No, no snobbery implied or suggested. ???? I would not criticize anyone here or critique unless asked to do so. And, inspiration is the driving force. I was illustrating the elements of that force, at least for me anyway. I understand completely the rationale behind using a specialist to...

    Small Shop Stainless?

I poked around and looked for stainless info and did not find what I needed, so here is the question for some of you folks that have plenty of experience with stainless. What is a good stainless that can be heat treated successfully in a small shop. I would like something that does not have...

    Refugee from KF

Welcome to the pack David! Looking forward to seeing your work. Perhaps some not-so-fancy boards would be good for those of us doing our own leather work? Maybe a better idea than carving up the wife's kitchen table? (don't ask how I know that).

    rookie rookie rookie

Welcome to the pack Newton! I make knives from round sawmill blades (L-6) and have had few problems. What type of sawblades are you using? PM me if you need to. I also do all of my heat treating as well, so should be able to help. Lots of folks here that are more knowledgeable than myself...
